Sand Dunes, Sports Days & Youth Nights
It is hard to believe that our school year is almost over. Our family has enjoyed a blessed year in 2009.
Amber and Jonathan have enjoyed activities in sports, drama, and outreach programs. We praise God for their accomplishments in school and their good health. This year Jonathan has competed on the school soccer team and volleyball team. He is getting more skilled all the time and has grown about 4 more inches as he reaches his 12 yr. old birthday.

Amber placed 2nd place in the sprints and almost tied for first in high jump. She is now the tallest in the family and growing more athletic all the time. She was the only freshman to make the drama team and has done many performances both at school and in ministry in the villages. She continues to be a bright spot in our lives and brings joy to whatever she is doing.

Heather has now completed her first year at Olivet Nazarene University. She has been a brave girl all on her own. Chicago is now her town and she frequents regularly the bistros, coffee shops, and Arts festivals. She has made good friends and been very independent. We praise God for taking care of her as she stays focused on reaching her goals of entering the nursing program.

Chris was married in January to Cristen Phillips in Moscow, ID. We are so happy for him and glad to have a wonderful daughter in law. He is still serving in the Army National Guard and looking for advancement. They are already expecting their first child in December so we will soon be proud grandparents!
Developing Disciples – The foundation for the future!
The ministry in Senegal continues to be a blessing. Each week I ride my motorcycle across town at dusk into the heart of a bustling community. There I meet with several young men growing in their faith. We open the word of God and prayer together. They can now quote all of the 16 articles of faith by memory.
Their grasp of the Word is getting deeper each week. As we walk through the life of Jesus in Mark we use the Bible Study Map to remember the key topics of each chapter. This discipleship may seem slow some days but we are building strong young leaders today in order to see a strong growing church in the future.
Our Nazarene Theological Institute is now in full swing at our center, offering 8 courses each year. I taught my first class in communications to all French students. Though I used a translator for the lectures, I answered all questions directly in French and did all the grading and reading of papers myself. It is encouraging to see some progress in my language aptitude though I still have a long ways to go.
Continue to pray with us as we expand our ministry into 2 more areas of the city and 2 more villages in the interior.

We had a youth night at our house which was lots of fun. Providing a place a fellowship for the youth has helped to bring the group together. Pray that we can still raise up a strong youth group at our church!

Home Assignment June and July 2009!
Getting away for a weekend is some times a challenge. Recently we spent a weekend in tents on a sand dune here in Senegal. The powder sand was so soft we were able to sled down the hills like snow sledding. Riding camels and fellowshipping with our friends made a unique weekend away from work a real blessing.

This summer we return for our home assignment June 5th to August 12th. We will be coordinating the Africa Exhibit at general assembly and hosting a “Friends of West Africa Luncheon” on Friday June 26th, at the Orlando Convention Center. We hope many of you will stop by and say hello at the booth and if interested in attending the dinner let us know as the seats are limited and by invitation only.
Our deputation tour will take us through Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Washington State, Idaho, and Wisconsin. We hope to see many of our friends and family!

4.Pray that God would send us partners as friends of West Africa to help support and implement the pastoral training and leadership development across the field.
5.Pray that more work and witness teams will come to West Africa so that we can complete the training centers in 5 countries of West Africa.

The end of the school is here already and we are making plans to return to the US for our home assignment. Though we have seen some challenges in recent months it has been great to see how God has been at work in our lives and in our ministry. We hope you enjoy the stories below and connected photos of our events.
